A design should fit the roof—not fight it
Usable roof area, shading, rooflights and safe access all shape the final layout.
Separate product and performance promises
A product warranty covers specified faults in the panel subject to its terms. A performance warranty describes an expected degradation curve, not a promise that the whole system will generate a fixed annual amount at the property.
Inverters, batteries, optimisers, chargers and monitoring equipment have their own warranties and conditions.
Workmanship cover is different again
Installer workmanship covers the installation work for the stated period and terms. Ask what happens if the original installer stops trading, whether an insurance-backed arrangement applies and which items would still be excluded.
Keep the evidence needed for a claim
Retain the contract, equipment schedule, serial numbers, commissioning records, certificates, warranty documents and monitoring access. Some manufacturers require registration or particular maintenance conditions.
Common questions
- Does a 25-year panel warranty cover labour and scaffold?
- Not automatically. Read the terms for transport, access, labour and consequential costs; these may sit outside the product replacement itself.
- Is estimated annual generation guaranteed?
- Normally it is a model based on stated assumptions, not a guarantee. Weather, shade, downtime and household changes affect real results.
