Storage planned as part of the whole home
Capacity, power, controls, clearances and cable routes are considered together.
A battery can store surplus solar generation for use after the sun has gone down. It can also be configured around a suitable time-of-use tariff, charging when grid electricity costs less and supporting the property during more expensive periods. The useful capacity depends on your consumption profile—not simply the largest unit that will fit on the wall.
Existing solar systems can often be retrofitted with storage, but inverter compatibility, metering, available electrical capacity, equipment location and intended backup behaviour must be checked first. We assess AC-coupled and DC-coupled options and explain the trade-offs in the proposal.

- Consumption and existing-generation review
- New-install and retrofit compatibility assessment
- Usable-capacity and power-output selection
- Safe equipment-location and cable-route planning

- Existing generation profile
- Evening and overnight demand
- Retrofit compatibility
Common questions
- Can I add a battery to solar panels fitted by someone else?
- Often, yes. We need to identify the existing inverter and protection arrangements before recommending whether an AC-coupled retrofit or other configuration is appropriate.
- Can a battery work without solar panels?
- Yes. A standalone battery can be charged from the grid and may suit a time-of-use tariff. Its value depends on the tariff, usable capacity, round-trip efficiency and your peak-period electricity use.
- Will a home battery run everything during a power cut?
- Only if the system includes suitable backup capability and circuits. Standard grid-connected batteries do not automatically provide whole-home backup, so this requirement must be designed in from the start.

Real installation photography
Real roofs make the design decisions clearer
These photographs show the variety a survey has to account for. They are genuine installation images, but are not labelled as specific case studies until the matching project records are verified.

Working around a complex roof
Rooflights, hips and separate roof faces can all influence a practical array layout.

A neat, low-profile finish
Panel position and mounting details matter to how the finished roof looks.

Safe access during installation
Access, edge protection and the sequence of work are part of the installation plan.
